The United States military carried out targeted strikes on Iranian radar installations and drone command-and-control facilities located in Goruk and Qeshm Island over the weekend, according to a statement released by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) late Sunday.
The military operation was launched in response to what U.S. officials described as escalating Iranian aggression in the region. CENTCOM stated that the strikes followed the reported shootdown of a U.S. MQ-1 drone, which Washington said was operating in international waters at the time of the incident.
According to the U.S. military, the targeted facilities were linked to Iran’s drone operations and surveillance capabilities. The strikes focused on radar systems and command centers believed to support unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) activities. Officials said the action was intended to degrade Iran’s ability to conduct future drone-related operations and to protect U.S. personnel and assets in the region.
The latest military action highlights growing tensions between the United States and Iran, particularly in strategic waterways and surrounding areas where both countries maintain a significant presence. The shootdown of the MQ-1 drone added to concerns about regional security and freedom of navigation, prompting a swift response from Washington.
CENTCOM emphasized that the strikes were defensive in nature and aimed at deterring further hostile actions. The command reiterated that the United States remains committed to safeguarding its forces and maintaining stability in the Middle East.
The incident is expected to draw international attention as geopolitical tensions continue to shape security dynamics across the region. Analysts will closely monitor any further developments, including potential responses from Tehran and the broader impact on regional military and diplomatic relations.
The U.S.-Iran conflict remains a key focus for global markets and policymakers, with drone warfare, military operations, and regional security continuing to play central roles in ongoing tensions between the two nations.
