Type 2 diabetes is prevalent among a big portion of the world’s population today due to a more fast-paced lifestyle and accessibility to healthier resources among many factors. Although fruit juices and sugary drinks are not advised for those who suffer from type 2 diabetes, there is a kind of water that patients can drink in order to lower blood sugar levels.
Express reports that there is a kind of drink that type 2 diabetes patients can take that is proven to lower blood sugar levels. A study made on diabetic rats resulted in them having healthier levels of blood sugar after being given coconut water compared to other diabetic rats. The rats were also found to have lower levels of hemoglobin-A1C which is a measure of long-term blood sugar control.
Another study that was made on diabetic rats also arrived at the same conclusion. The diabetic rats who drank coconut water were found to have lower blood sugar levels and reduced stress indicators such as malondialdehyde.
Although studies on humans have yet to be done, the results will highly likely be in favor of the patients. Coconut water is a good source of magnesium, which is known to help improve the body’s sensitivity to insulin and lower blood sugar levels in those suffering from both prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.
Lowering blood sugar levels also mainly depends on the diet. Eating a lot of fruits and vegetables and reducing salt, fat, and sugar intake can help lower blood sugar levels. Exercise is also advised in order to lower blood sugar levels and overall weight loss. It is recommended to go for 2.5 hours of exercise or physical activity every day.
Doctors also advise not to skip meals as well. Making sure to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, can help keep blood sugar levels and overall food consumption in check. Staying hydrated is another good way to keep healthy. Six to eight glasses of water a day is recommended and a healthy as well as affordable drink.
With these, it can not only result in lowered blood sugar levels, but it can also result in weight loss.
