U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed reports claiming that the United States approved Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles for strikes deep into Russian territory. On Wednesday, Trump stated that the claims were “false,” asserting that the U.S. has no involvement in Ukraine’s missile operations.
According to The Wall Street Journal, unnamed U.S. officials reported that the Trump administration had allegedly lifted restrictions on Ukraine, allowing it to use Western-supplied long-range missiles against Russia. The report quickly drew global attention amid growing tensions between Kyiv and Moscow.
However, Trump took to Truth Social to refute the report, calling it inaccurate and misleading. “The Journal story on the U.S.A.’s approval of Ukraine being allowed to use long range missiles deep into Russia is false,” he wrote. “The U.S. has nothing to do with those missiles, wherever they may come from, or what Ukraine does with them!”
The statement comes as Ukraine continues its efforts to defend against Russian aggression, relying heavily on Western military support. Long-range missile systems have been a critical point of contention in the ongoing conflict, as their use could escalate hostilities beyond Ukraine’s borders.
Trump’s denial seeks to distance the United States from any direct role in potential cross-border attacks. His comments underscore ongoing political sensitivity surrounding U.S. military aid and its implications for global security.
The Wall Street Journal has not yet issued a response to Trump’s remarks. Meanwhile, discussions continue within the international community about how far Western nations should go in supporting Ukraine’s defense efforts without provoking further escalation.
