The plot of “The Winds of Winter” has been mostly covered by the saga’s TV adaptation and fans are disappointed about how slow George R.R. Martin is from finishing the saga. But it seems that the remaining books will offer different takes on a lot of scenes that’s been depicted in the show.

It’s no secret that “Game of Thrones” needed to cut down, summarize, or write off a lot of sequences and characters in the show as screenwriters are constrained by time and production cost. One such absence is Victarion Greyjoy, the youngest brother of Balon and Euron. In “The Winds of Winter,” Victarion will be playing a far larger role since he also has a red priest at his side.

Named Moqorro, Victarion initially met the R’hllor priest after his fleet came upon the man clinging upon a wreckage at sea. The captain’s crew wanted the fire-worshipper dead but Moqorro convinced Victarion that he can heal his burned hands. Following that, the massive priest quickly rose among Victarion’s ranks and somewhat became the captain’s seer. But apart from the red priest, Victarion also holds a significant relic that supposedly comes from Valyria itself.

The relic in question is called Dragonbinder, a massive horn etched with Valyrian glyphs that burns the lungs of anyone who blows it. The books depict that the relic is capable of controlling dragons. It’s for this reason that “The Winds of Winter” might provide a different fate for Daenerys and her “children.”

It would also be interesting to see what will happen if the Night King gets a hold of Dragonbinder. While the relic’s glyphs read that no mortal man will blow the horn and live to tell the tale, the Night King is a whole different story since he’s neither mortal nor man. Victarion and Dragonbinder are just two of the many characters and items that didn’t make it to the show. Unfortunately, fans of the saga will have to wait indefinitely for “The Winds of Winter” since Martin is still writing it. In the meantime, they can enjoy the video below where the author reads a chapter about Victarion and his plans moving forward.
