Even though “The Winds of Winter” was not released in 2018, last year ended with a little bit of hope that its launch is happening sooner than ever. But one of George R. R. Martin’s latest posts might have hinted that “Game of Thrones” season 8 will finish first before the book will be out.
Since Martin’s new book “Fire and Blood” became available last November, the critically-acclaimed author has been discussing “The Winds of Winter” relatively more often. The author has also confirmed that finishing the sixth installment of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” saga is now his top priority.
However, Martin is still mum about a potential release date window for “The Winds of Winter.” But in an entry to his Not A Blog platform, he might have hinted that it will not be out until “Game of Thrones” season 8 has concluded.
Martin promised fans that the conclusion to the novel series will arrive at a certain point. But he also said fans will have something to look forward to while still waiting for the release of “The Winds of Winter.”
Reiterating that he is all about finishing “The Winds of Winter” now, the author wrote, “I am back in my fortress of solitude, and back in Westeros. It won’t be tomorrow, and it won’t be next week, but you will get the end of ‘A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE.’ Meanwhile, you have the final season of ‘GAME OF THRONES’ coming, and the new show that is not yet officially called ‘THE LONG NIGHT’ being cast, and a couple more shows still being scripted… and a few other cool things in the works as well.”
Even before the said blog post, it was reported last November that Martin has gone to a remote location to focus on “The Winds of Winter.” It paved the way for some speculations that he might be just months away from finishing the book and it renewed fans’ hope that it might be launched before 2019 ends. However, until such time that Martin officially announces a release date for “The Winds of Winter,” it is best to take his advice and focus on other books and shows set in Westeros.
