There are many differences in the events between the books and the “Game of Thrones” TV series adaptation. And these have raised fans’ curiosity on how author George R.R. Martin will revive Jon Snow (Kit Harington on TV) in the much-awaited book “The Winds of Winter.”

In the book “A Dance with Dragons,” Jon Snow practically had the same fate as the character’s counterpart on the small screen. He was appointed as the Night’s Watch Lord Commander and was later assassinated. He already rose from the dead on the TV show and the same fate is expected in “The Winds of Winter.”

The way it was told in the books, a Night’s Watch faction executed Jon after he decided to leave Castle Black and face Ramsay Bolton in Winterfell. In the books, the Free Folk Giant Wun Wun was present when Jon was repeatedly stabbed by his so-called brothers of the Night’s Watch. But, regardless, Jon’s revival is a highly expected plot in “The Winds of Winter.”

Whether or not Jon died is not explicitly told in the fifth book. But many fans are expecting that the arc of his resurrection will have a significant role in “The Winds of Winter" narrative. But fans think that the possibilities are not limited to just Melisandre’s ritual.

Some fans believe that Jon’s direwolf named Ghost will have a huge role in his resurrection in “The Winds of Winter.” Most fans think the process of Jon's resurrection in the books will not be as quick as in the HBO series.

One fan speculating on Jon’s fate in “The Winds of Winter” said in a Quora thread, “Jon wargs Ghost. Again, not something the show has ever acknowledged — in the books, all six Stark kids are wargs. Jon warging Ghost is telegraphed in the prologue of the fifth book, but again, the show couldn’t or wouldn’t get into it.”

Meanwhile, resurrection by pyre cannot also be ruled out considering that “The Winds of Winter” has yet to reveal that Jon is actually a Targaryen. Fans also consider the possibility that Jon remains unconscious for a while and might experience having visions just like Bran did before he woke up from the paralyzing fall.

Unfortunately, fans will still have to keep on waiting for the release of “The Winds of Winter.” So far, Martin has only confirmed that the book will not be launched in 2018.
