“The Winds of Winter” is really delayed and there is no question about it. It has been almost eight years already, and yet the book is not yet out despite his repeated promises.
Martin’s more recent vow to release the “The Winds of Winter” was only posted in May. He assured fans that they would be seeing “TWOW” in the bookshelves by July 2020, but could he really keep his promise?
What’s taking his time
When his announcement was revealed through his blog, his fans were jumping with joy because finally, “The Winds of Winter” is coming. However, there were news reports that stated Martin had accepted new jobs which will obviously take his time.
He clearly said that he would publish the sixth book in his “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series, in July 2020 and “If I don’t have ‘The Winds of Winter’ in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done,” he wrote in May.
His editing is also to blame
But then, it seems that it is not just his other jobs that are causing the delay of “The Winds of Winter,” Martin once shared that when he writes his novels, he edits them and this process always results to a big chunk of the novel being discarded. This is why he keeps on writing and then rewriting the book.
When asked if really throws away parts of his finished works, Martin told Entertainment Weekly, “I do, maybe more than I should, especially with these books, especially as we go deeper. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older, or the series is getting more complicated.”
This explains why “The Winds of Winter” is still a bunch of paperwork up to now. But with the mounting pressure from the fans, George RR Martin may also find a way to complete “TWOW” so he can release it on his give due date.
Perhaps, it is also possible that Martin is actually done with “The Winds of Winter” just like what was rumored and he is just waiting for the right timing to release the book. If this is the case, then the truth is, the 70-year-old author has nothing to worry about his July 2020 publishing date.
