Early this week, it was announced that actress Danai Gurira will appear in the highly-anticipated Marvel superhero movie “Avengers: Infinity War.” Gurira will reportedly reprise her role from “Black Panther” as Okoye, one of the Dora Milaje, a group of elite, female warrior bodyguards to T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman), the ruler of Wakanda and the mysterious, claw-wielding superhero, Deadline reported.
While Gurira’s career trajectory is something to be excited at for “The Walking Dead” fans, it has worried some considering that she plays one of the most fiercest women in the AMC zombie drama. Digital Spy also pointed out that both filming of “Avengers: Infinity War” and Season 8 of “The Walking Dead” are currently in progress, which could probably mean that Gurira’s katana-wielding days as the fearless Michonne might be fewer than expected as a series regular. After all, Sonequa Martin-Green as Sasha bowed out from the series when she was tapped to play a lead character in the upcoming “Star Trek: Discovery” series.
Laura Hurley for Cinemablend said this will not be the case for Gurira, for several reasons. She points out:
“Both “The Walking Dead” and “Avengers: Infinity War” are filming in Atlanta, and it's quite likely that Danai Gurira will be able to balance her work as Michonne on “The Walking Dead” and her work as the elite Wakandan fighter Okoye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “The Walking Dead” tends to jump around, and even the biggest stars don't appear in every single episode, so the show could almost certainly give Gurira some extra time off if necessary without killing Michonne off. Conversely, we don't actually know how much of a part Gurira will have to play in “Infinity War.” The movie is already set to be filled with the biggest heroes of the MCU, and Okoye might only appear briefly. For all we know, she'll simply be on screen for a few moments in Wakanda before Black Panther is pulled into the action with the Avengers.”
“The Walking Dead” Season 8 is expected to return later this year, Express UK said.
