“The Walking Dead” Season 8 is set to return on AMC in October amidst left and right show cancellations as of late. The zombie drama appears to be safe so far, now that the Season 7 finale left us with Negan rallying his own troops and preparing for another assault against Rick and the citizens of Alexandria, which could mean a lot of battle scenes very early in Season 8, Screenrant reported.
Show producer Denise Huth sort of confirmed this development, and shared that “The Walking Dead” has started filming for its eighth installment. He teased to Entertainment Weekly, “It’s a ton of action. It’s super exciting. I think it will be really, really satisfying. As a fan of the show — and I am a fan of the show — when I read it, it was like “Awww, I can’t wait! It’s going to be great!” It’s worth the worth the wait to get to this moment.”
On the other hand, there has been much speculation about the status of the show’s regulars, especially with the fact that not even the show’s most beloved characters will remain in the show. Moviefone said three of the stars have been promoted to show regulars (Pollyanna McIntosh as Scavengers leader Jadis, Steven Ogg as Simon, Negan’s right-hand man, and Katelyn Nacon as Enid, Carl Grimes’ sort of love interest), and two new characters have been added to the cast lineup.
Fortune contributor Paul Tassi wrote, ““The Walking Dead” also has a lot of flexibility with its core cast due to the volatile nature of the show. While actors on “The Walking Dead” are well paid, they also know that this is a show that can kill anyone, at any time. This year (spoilers) the show lost Glenn, who had been with the show from episode one. If he can go, anyone can go, and the comics are not necessarily and accurate roadmap of safety. I would argue the only essential cast member is Rick at this point, but even series creator Robert Kirkman has admitted “The Walking Dead” could live on without him.”
Will we’ll see the end of Rick in Season 8? Time will only tell if this is true.
