The first half of “The Walking Dead” Season 9 has recently ended and the post-apocalyptic zombie drama will be returning on February 2019. Although Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) have now left the show, the remaining deuteragonists will now have to step up to the plate to fill the large shoes that both characters left.
The obvious choices are Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Michonne (Danai Gurira), with the latter the most likely candidate. Reedus has already said that Daryl isn’t a character that’s been written to take the mantle of leadership. As such, the second half of “The Walking Dead” Season 9 might give more screen time for Michonne in order to transition her to being the head of the pack.
As for Daryl, he’ll likely be the mentor of Judith (Cailey Fleming) since the young lass needs all the guidance she can get now that Rick is out of the picture. However, “The Walking Dead” Season 9’s finale saw that Daryl was trapped with Michonne and other inhabitants of Alexandria.
The new villains called The Whisperers managed to surround the group and the whole situation is bleak for the protagonists. The recent finale already saw Jesus (Tom Payne) dying at the hands of a Whisperer and the others could meet a similar fate. Of course, Daryl and Michonne are going to be safe throughout the second half of “The Walking Dead” Season 9 since it makes no sense to kill them following Rick’s exit.
It’s still unclear how exactly the crew will survive this ordeal but at least they now have an idea what they’re dealing with. The group already know that some of the undead that has surrounded them are actually people who have donned the skin of Walkers. It’s just a matter of identifying which is which and disposing them quickly. Following that, they can create a small pocket out of the horde and make their escape from there. But even if they do survive this confrontation it’s expected that a few more will die in “The Walking Dead” Season 9 since The Whisperers is one of the most dangerous villains the comics ever produced.
