‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 5, entitled "Coming Home Was a Mistake", will find Stefan threatening to execute a risky plan to save his brother Damon from the control of the siren Sybil even if it means changing their relationship forever.
The synopsis for "Coming Home Was a Mistake" posted on Cartermatt stated, “Spiraling down a dangerous path of self-destruction, Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) latest actions prove he may be beyond the point of return. Unwilling to give up on his brother, Stefan (Paul Wesley) is forced to make a gut-wrenching decision that threatens to change their relationship forever.
Elsewhere, Bonnie (Kat Graham) gets advice from Caroline (Candice King) on how to break through to Enzo (Michael Malarkey), while Matt (Zach Roerig) attempts to decipher a mysterious box of messages that he’s received. Finally, after tragedy strikes close to home, Stefan and the others are forced to remember what matters most to them.”
The promo opens to Stefan telling Caroline and Alaric (Matt Davis), “I’m at a loss with Damon. We have to put him down.” The trailer suggested that Stefan may resort to doing something quite drastic in order to get his brother back.
However, Stefan warned that he may “lose him forever.” It is unclear whether Stefan’s threat meant that he would kill his brother or just change their relationship beyond repair. By the end of the promo, Stefan is seen closing the lid to a coffin.
There seemed to be no stopping Damon from transforming into Sybil’s (Nathalie Kelley) powerful lackey in the preceding episodes. Damon has spun out of control under the influence of the villainous siren.
Damon has already killed Tyler (Michael Trevino) and nearly killed Matt’s father, according to Wet Paint. He looks to be interrupting the werewolf’s funeral in the promo. Damon warns the funeral attendees “Take your pick because I’m going to bury every one of you.”
It remains to be seen if Stefan would follow through with his threat and actually kill his beloved brother to put a stop to the murders and devastation Sybil initiated.
Meanwhile, it seems that Bonnie and Caroline may have a slim chance of getting Enzo back.
‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 5, entitled "Coming Home Was a Mistake", is scheduled to air on The CW on November 18, 2016. It was directed by James Thompson and written by Celine Geiger. It will be followed by episode 6, entitled "Detoured on Some Random Backwoods Path to Hell", scheduled for December 2, 2016.
