‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 12, titled “What Are You?” is set to feature Damon as he attempts to strike a deal with Cade in order to save his brother. However, Alaric and Matt might make Damon’s mission difficult to complete.
The synopsis for “What Are You?” posted on TV Muse stated, “In order to save Stefan's (Paul Wesley) soul, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) makes a deal with Cade (Wole Parks) to retrieve the Maxwell journal. Alaric (Matt Davis) and Matt (Zach Roerig) refuse to hand the journal over as it may contain the key to destroying Cade. Caroline (Candice King) desperately tries to connect with Stefan before Cade goes through with his plan.”
The promo for the upcoming episode hinted at the core characters still reeling from the aftermath of Enzo’s demise. It seems that Damon and Stefan would finally make a pact to kill off Cade for good. Caroline would also struggle to reconnect with Stefan after he was reverted back into his ripper self.
Damon will have to save Stefan’s soul by making a deal with the devil: Stefan for the Maxwell journal. However, Matt and Alaric will refuse to hand it to the Salvatore brother believing that it contains vital information on how to kill Cade.
The previous episode, titled "You Made a Choice to Be Good," saw the shocking death of Enzo (Michael Malarkey) in the hands of Stefan. Stefan stormed into Bonnie’s (Kat Graham) secret upstate New York property, where Bonnie secretly kept Elena (Nina Dobrev). In his quest to kill Elena, Enzo became collateral damage.
According to the recap of episode 11 posted on TV Line, Stefan was given the choice to kill a hundred people by sundown or the love of his brother’s life. Of course, he chose the latter. This was revealed a little later after Cade gave Damon the ultimatum to send him 100 souls or kill Stefan’s lover, Caroline.
By the end of the episode, Bonnie managed to stick a syringe full of Elena’s blood into Stefan before he could attack either of them. This turned Stefan human.
‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 12, titled “What Are You?” is scheduled to air on The CW on February 10, 2017. Darren Genet directed the episode written by Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux.It will be followed by episode 13, titled "The Lies Are Going to Catch Up with You," scheduled for February 17.
