After not seeing them for three years, The Smurfs will be back, this time on the small screen, for a new show that will be premiering in 2021.

The Smurfs will be joining a host of animated hit shows on Nickelodeon after the ViacomCBS-owned network signed a deal with LAFIG Belgium and IMPS, The Smurfs worldwide licensors, for a new television animated series.

The new Smurfs series will have its own original storyline and will be CG-animated.

Also to be launched in 2022 is a consumer product line that will be based on the new animated series that is also part of the deal.

The whole Smurfs gang will be seen on Nickelodeon—Clumsy and Smurfette, along with Papa Smurf, Brainy and Hefty who will be having new adventures that is sure to bring on laughter and heart. Nickelodeon also promised high-stakes action for the little blue characters, according to Deadline.

The last time we saw them blues was three years ago in the feature-animated film, Smurfs: The Lost Village.

Cinemablend reported that no one else has yet been tapped or even mentioned on who will be voicing the Smurfs. In the 2017 movie, among the voice cast was Demi Lovato who voiced Smurfette, Jack McBrayer for Clumsy, Mandy Patinkin for Papa Smurf, and Joe Manganiello for Hefty Smurf.

There is no doubt that Nickelodeon will be a perfect fit for The Smurfs as it will be joining favorite animated shows such as The Rugrats, SpongeBob Square Pants, PAW Patrol and its newest animated series, Star Trek.

The Smurfs aired on NBC from 1981 to 1989 and was featured in two other films—The Smurfs in 2011 and The Smurfs 2 in 2013 aside from The Smurfs: The Lost Village.
