The ending of “The OA” season 2 has been repeatedly described as “crazy" and "mad." And fans who have already watched it will most likely agree. But, on the other hand, it is one of the TV moments that can be interpreted in so many ways. Could this be enough for fans to demand from Netflix to order a third installment?
“The OA” season 2 goes beyond the typical mysteries of time or space travel. The show, created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, is primarily dealing with how one’s consciousness can travel through various dimensions. However, the Netflix original series managed to exceed anyone’s expectation through that one mind-bending sequence in the finale.
In this show’s case, there is one “original” dimension where Marling’s Prairie a.k.a. OA had already died. However, her consciousness has survived through other bodies and by traveling through different dimensions. In fact, the real world is just one of the dimensions in “The OA” season 2.
As the characters run after one another through various dimensions, they ended up being in a filming set where they are actors and they people refer to them with their real names. Prairie is named “Brit” but she is married to a man with a British accent named “Jason Isaacs” — exactly the name of the actor who plays Dr. Hap in the series. The finale of “The OA” season 2 shows that there is really no limit to the TV world that Marling and Batmanglij have created.
This very bizarre but intriguing approach is possible one of the selling points of the show. However, it remains to be seen whether a new installment would follow “The OA” season 2. But IndieWire pointed out this complicated storyline and the very long production days that the show requires might also be its undoing. “The OA” season 2 premiered on Netflix last March 22.
