‘The OA’ Season 2 Air Date, Spoilers: Why It’s Impossible to Predict What Happens Next

Aside from guessing when “The OA” season 2 is coming, fans are also likely trying to determine what is going to happen next after OA (Brit Marling) got shot and felt like she is going to a different dimension. But predicting the next plots in this mystery, sci-fi series is exceptionally hard for one major reason.

The series is an original work of Marling and Zal Batmanglij. The franchise is not based on any novel, short story, or previously released flick. This means that whatever happens next was not set in stone yet when the first season was released and even when Netflix ordered “The OA” season 2. In fact, this is also why the production of the second installment only began in January 2018 even though Netflix renewed the series for season 2 in February 2017.

Last November, Marling posted a series of photos explaining why making “The OA” season 2 is taking much longer than what series fans are used to. “Many TV shows are adapted from previously written material (novels, comics, foreign TV shows). This allows the writers to work quickly adapting the story for the screen rather than having to create characters and a world or plot from scratch. … ‘The OA’ doesn’t function this way,” Marling wrote.

Marling added that “The OA” season 2 is also not an adaptation. And the fact that she serves as a series co-creator and lead actor means they “can’t leapfrog the production.” That simply means they needed to finish one episode before starting filming the next one. And before they can even start producing episode 1, Marling and Batmanglij had to finish writing all eight chapters.

However, speculations that “The OA” season 2 might be released in 2019 were revived recently when Marling’s to-do list seemingly confirmed they are on the final parts of post-production. Fans still need to wait for an official announcement from Netflix but it would not be far-fetched to start hoping that show will return this year.
