The year 2020 is turning out to be very significant for the franchise of “The Irregular at Magic High School.” Aside from the confirmed release of its second anime installment, it has been recently announced that the original light novel series Tsutomu Sato is also coming to an end.

‘The Irregular at Magic High School’ volume 32 arrives in September

Another very popular series is ending this year, after more than a decade since it started. The news was recently confirmed through the light novel’s official Twitter page. “The Irregular at Magic High School” will end after volume 32 fittingly titled the “Sacrifice/Graduation Arc.”

“The Irregular at Magic High School” volume 32’s release date has also been confirmed to be on Thursday, Sept. 10 in Japan. Sato originally released the first issues of “The Irregular at Magic High School” online through the user-generated publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2008. Sato’s work then caught the attention of Dengeki Bunko and started printing the series in 2011 making it possible to gain more fans around the world.

Internation light novel fans, on the other hand, might have to wait for years to see “The Irregular at Magic High School” volume 32’s official English translation. At this point, Yen Press has yet to release the English version of volume 16 on Oct. 20.

This is not the only part of the franchise that bid its fans goodbye this year. Its popular manga spinoff “The Honor Student at Magic High School” telling the story in Miyuki’s perspective also ended this month.

‘The Irregular at Magic High School’ season 2 to premiere in October

On the bright side, fans of Sato’s series can still relive the events of the light novel now that “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 has been confirmed. New episodes covering the Visitor Arc would have been slated for release next month, but Eight Bit had to postpone the production due to COVID-19.

Visitor Arc only covers volumes 9 to 11 of the light novel, which means it will still have more than 20 volumes worth of material to use for future anime installments. Fans should hope that the anime’s revival will be successful enough to convince producers that the show deserves to stay on the air beyond “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2, which is now set to premiere in October.
