Anime fans have been waiting for “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 for more than six years now. While the wait was made longer by COVID-19, the good news there is no stopping the show from returning on the air this year.
‘The Irregular at Magic High School’ season 2 will premiere in October
Earlier this year, “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 was announced to be released sometime in July joining the lineup of seasonal shows arriving in summer. However, much like everything else this year, that plan was foiled by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
Currently running shows were temporarily suspended from airing while the work on projects still in production such as “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 was also postponed. It has then led to the delay of the show’s return to fall. Producers previously announced that the next episodes will start airing in October, but a specific release date is still unknown.
‘The Irregular at Magic High School’ season 2 could have fewer episodes
Just as expected, “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 will follow the events of the first season and the not the 2017 anime film titled “The Irregular at Magic High School: The Girl Who Calls the Stars.” However, what’s interesting for the anime’s return is that it is only confirmed to feature one story arc that spans on three light novel volumes.
That is quite a downgrade from the first season that covered over three arcs equivalent to about seven light novel volumes. That much material allowed the first season to have a total of 26 episodes. With what has been confirmed for “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2, fans should expect only around 12 to 13 episodes.
‘The Irregular at Magic High School’ season 2 introduces Lina
One of the biggest plot developments in “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 is the introduction of a new character named Angelina Kudou Shields, or simply Lina. Fans who have seen the 2017 movie should expect quite a different premise in bringing in Lina’s character in the canon anime series.
‘The Irregular at Magic High School’ season 2 is produced by Eight Bit
Madhouse has not returned to produce “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2, but fans should not worry because Eight Bit is the one working on it. The latter is the same studio that produced the said film, which has seen success in Japan shortly after its premiere in movie theaters. Another good news is that the voice actors from the first season will reprise their roles for the anime’s much-awaited comeback.
