“The Good Doctor” aired the finale for season 2 on March 11 and that episode left so many twists that fans want the third installment now. The good news is that ABC renewed the medical drama even before the current season concluded.
One thing is sure, “The Good Doctor” season 3 is returning as the program exhibited high viewership ratings throughout the season. The feedback for the cast’s performance was stellar as well and in fact, Freddie Highmore was nominated again for Best Actor at the 2019 Critic’s Choice Awards while Richard Schiff was in the running for Best Supporting Actor.
Since “The Good Doctor” season 3 is confirmed, all the regular cast members are expected to return. Of course, Shaun Murphy will still be Dr. Highmore and he will be supported by Richard Schiff (Dr. Aaron Glassman), Nicholas Gonzalez (Dr. Neil Melendez), Antonia Thomas (Dr. Claire Browne), Tamlyn Tomita (Allegra Aoki) and Daniel Dae Kim (Dr. Jackson Han) will also be around as per Express.
As for the plot for “The Good Doctor” season 3, showrunner David Shore already dropped a big hint and it will be a refreshing change. He revealed that the third season will explore Dr. Shaun’s love life, finally.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner said, “In season 3, we put Shaun in the role of caretaker, which I thought was interesting and fun to explore. Next year, we’re putting him in the role of a suitor.”
In the finale of “The Good Doctor” season 2, Dr. Shaun asked Dr. Carly Lever (Jasika Nicole) out for a date and she agreed! That was a milestone in his life because he did not really have a love life for two seasons. Plus, whenever he tries in the previous seasons, he always fails to get a “yes” from a woman so this is his big chance.
Apparently, this was what David Shore is talking about, the finale paved the way for Dr. Shaun to begin his dating life in “The Good Doctor” season 3. Meanwhile, the release date for the new season is not yet available at this time.
