“The Crown” Season 3 is expected to have the plot move from Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) to other members of the royal line. One of the stories that will be explored is Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) and the investiture ceremony that occurred in 1969.
The Prince of Wales taking a more prominent role in “The Crown” Season 3 is setting up the events that would herald the arrival of Princess Diana. And speaking of the controversial and well-loved princess, the series has now found the actress who will be portraying her. Emma Corrin has now been cast as Princess Diana and the actress expressed her gratitude on Twitter, Digital Spy reported.
“I have been glued to the show and to think I'm now joining this incredibly talented acting family is surreal,” Corrin tweeted. “Princess Diana was an icon and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To explore her through Peter Morgan's writing is the most exceptional opportunity and I will strive to do her justice.” While fans of the series are eager to witness Corrin’s acting chops, they’ll have to wait a bit longer as Princess Diana will not be included in “The Crown” Season 3.
The third installment will be telling the events that occurred between the year 1964-1974. It wasn’t until 1977 that Charles and Diana met, back when the Prince of Wales was still dating Diana’s sister. As for the plot that is included in “The Crown” Season 3, it’ll cover the Queen’s state visit to France, the 1976 Montreal Olympics, and the historic Space Race that hurled humanity on the moon.
But the most intriguing story for the upcoming entry is the disaster that occurred in 1966, none other than the Aberfan tragedy that took the lives of 28 adults and 166 children. The showrunners have been careful in handling this story as they want to be precise with the details. As such, they’ve been meeting with the survivors of the incident to gather first-hand information about the catastrophe. Regarding the release date of “The Crown” Season 3, Netflix has yet to announce anything yet.
Colman previously said that principal filming has already been done although they’re still busy reshooting some of the scenes. Judging by how everything is shaping up, “The Crown” Season 3 could drop sometime in the last quarter of 2019.
