“The Crown” Season 3 is currently in development and the third installment will be recasting most of its casts in order to maintain a sense of realism with regards to age. Claire Foy, who has been playing Queen Elizabeth in the previous installments, will be replaced by Olivia Colman. Speaking with Vanity Fair, casting director Nina Gold explained why the casting process is a complicated work that has to be approached with the utmost accuracy.
“Not only are we casting real-life characters but as we get closer to the present day, many of these people are very much alive,” Gold explained. “So we have to honor them by picking the right actor to play them—while making a link between the actors who played these characters in the first seasons.” But now that Queen Elizabeth has been cast, fans are asking who will be playing Princess Diana in “The Crown” Season 3.
Unfortunately, the princess of Wales won’t be appearing until the fourth installment of the historical drama given that “The Crown” Season 3 will be dealing with events that occurred between 1964 and 1974. Princess Diana and Prince Charles met in 1977 when the latter was dating the former’s sister.
However, this doesn’t stop fans from speculating who’s the best actress for the job. After all, Princess Diana is one of the most beloved and controversial royalty to ever graced the Kensington Palace. While Sophie Turner, Saoirse Ronan, and Imogen Poots have been put forward by Vogue, what would be really interesting to see is for Jenna Coleman to play the princess. Coleman isn’t new to playing a royalty on screen as she’s portraying Queen Victoria in “Victoria” at the moment. “The Crown” Season 3 will undoubtedly set up Princess Diana’s story, especially since Prince Charles will be taking on a more prominent role in the third installment.
Aside from Coleman’s acting chops, another factor that makes her an interesting choice for Diana is the fact that the actress has been linked to Prince Harry, Diana’s second son. Even though Prince Harry is happily married to Meghan Markle now, casting Coleman as the beloved princess would undoubtedly turn some heads. Not that the series is needing such method to boost its rating since it has been performing rather well over at Netflix. So much so that fans can’t wait when “The Crown” Season 3 will air. However, no announcement has been made when the third installment will be released as the show is still busy with production at the moment.
