‘The Crow’ reboot may feature Jason Momoa in the lead role as Eric Draven, the original film and comic book’s main protagonist. The character was first portrayed on the big screen by the late Brandon Lee.

According to Mashable, the long planned reboot of director Alex Proyas’ neo-noir fantasy film released in 1994 may finally push through after years of being in the back burner. Momoa is reportedly in talks to take on the role of lead protagonist Eric Draven a.k.a. The Crow, the title hero of the cult favorite film as well as the original 1989 comic book it was adapted from.

Momoa posted a photograph of himself on Instagram only recently. He was all smiles as he shook Corin Hardy’s hand as they shared some beers in a pub. The image was captioned, “The only way to officially seal the deal as men Is a pint of black beauty. @guinness #sealthedeal #wearemarriednowfucker. #greatnewstocome. #dreamjob #cantwaittotelltheworld ALOHA ED”

Hardy was confirmed to direct the upcoming reboot and it didn’t take long for fans to speculate that Momoa may have finally landed the lead role.

Momoa is best known for his portrayal of the Dothraki leader Khal Drogo on HBO’s critically-acclaimed fantasy television series ‘Game of Thrones’. The 37-year old model, actor and director is also famous for his work on other television projects including ‘Baywatch Hawaii’, ‘Stargate Atlantis’, and ‘The Red Road’.

He took on the title role in the 2011 sword and sorcery film ‘Conan the Barbarian’ for which he won the CinemaCon Award for Male Rising Star. His casting as Arthur Curry a.k.a. Aquaman in DC’s Extended Universe (DCEU) catapulted his Hollywood fame further after his character was introduced into the cinematic superhero franchise in Zack Snyder’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’. He is set to star in his own standalone film ‘Aquaman’ helmed by James Wan and scheduled to premiere in 2017.

According to the Independent, countless reboots of Proyas’ film had been attempted through the years with actors Bradley Cooper, Channing Tatum, James McAvoy, Mark Wahlberg, Ryan Gosling, Tom Hiddleston, Alexander Skarsgård, and Luke Evans previously eyed for the role of Eric at some point. Plans never came into fruition.

Proyas’ film was based on James O’Barr graphic novel that follows a metal musician who returns from the dead with a fiery vengeance. He hunts down the men who murdered him and his fiancée on the night before their wedding.

The film’s success had been overshadowed by the death of star Brandon Lee after he was killed on the filming set only eight days prior to completion of production. Lee succumbed to a gunshot wound after an accidental shooting with a defective blank.

Despite production setbacks due to Lee’s death, the film was well-received by critics. It was considered a sleeper hit at the domestic box office and earned $50.6 million against a budget of $23 million, according to The Numbers. It also gained a strong cult following since its release.

‘The Crow’ is a planned reboot of Proyas’ 1994 cult film of the same name. It will be helmed by award-winning director Corin Hardy who is best known for his work on the horror film ‘The Hallow’.
