Russian President Putin’s Internet Ombudsman Dmitry Marinichev says that the government is only keen to preserve the status quo and that the state is afraid of blockchain and its expansion.
Marinichev in an interview to Belarussian media 42.TUT.BY, points out saying that blockchain technology keeps an immutable record of all transactions and thus is especially relevant in situations of deficient trust. He believes that, although internet regulation should not run counter the emerging innovations, it is necessary.
Marinichev said in his statement, “In one way or another, the state always resists new technologies. Hence comes, for example, the fear of the threats from the Internet, which makes the authorities try to regulate the web.” He added that, “The state is here to create conditions for the market to develop, to moderate the competition, to arbitrate and regulate.”
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich previously expressed a similar view in February during his talk at the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum. Talking in his speech, he said that, “The conflict between decentralisation and security will escalate. Talking about security, I mean that the conflict will involve the state. Surely, decentralisation will have a place in the future, but it will be restrained. It is going to be a world-scale conflict.”
