Tesla has unveiled a novel approach by announcing a temporary reduction in the price of the Model Y in the United States.
Tesla Offers Limited-Time Model Y Discounts, Denies 2024 Refresh Rumors
In recent months, Tesla has had numerous price adjustments in international markets, but not in the United States. Finally, Tesla's residential market prices had stabilized.
However, the automaker currently offers a temporary discount on the Model Y, its most popular vehicle. This new note was added to Tesla's website:
"New Model Y RWD and Long Range AWD prices reduced for deliveries now through February 29. Prices will increase by $1,000 or more on March 1."
The popular Model Y Dual Motor Long Range now starts at $48,000, while the Model Y RWD now begins at $43,000. The Model Y is currently leased for $379 per month, and Tesla has reduced the down payment to $2,500, making it the most affordable method of acquiring the world's best-selling vehicle.
Model Y Refresh Will Not Debut in North America in 2024
Tesla has officially denied rumors that it will introduce an updated Model Y in 2024, contrary to the previous understanding that production would commence later this year.
In response to a Reuters report indicating that Model Y "Juniper" production will commence in October of this year, Tesla has verified in an internal communication that the redesigned SUV will not debut in North America in 2024.
Tesla has emailed market delivery advisors to "communicate transparently" regarding the Model Y's lack of an update this year. Teslascope discovered this information, and a screenshot of the email was shared on X on Saturday.
“We heard your feedback that some customers are waiting to place their Model Y order as they anticipate a refresh similar to Model 3,” Tesla is quoted in the message. “It is important that we communicate transparently that there is no refresh for Model Y launching this year.”
According to Teslarati, there is speculation that Tesla may initially introduce the enhanced Model Y in Europe and Asia, followed by North America, mimicking its approach with the redesigned Model 3. Some speculate that if Tesla follows the same schedule as with the Model 3, a redesigned Model Y could be introduced to the European and Asian markets by the end of this year, followed by North America in January.
Tesla also implemented weekend-long price reductions for Model Y vehicles in North America, marking the automaker's first mid-quarter price adjustment with such a strict deadline.
In addition, Tesla has been incentivizing customers who accept deliveries by March 31. One such incentive is a $1,000 discount on new purchases made by early Cybertruck reservation holders.
Additionally, the automaker has reinstated complimentary transfers of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta, a program initially introduced last autumn. Moreover, transfers of the lifetime free Supercharging perk are once again available.
