PlayStation 6 Rumors: Sony and AMD to Power Up PS6 with 4K and 8K Gaming

Sony's future PlayStation 6 to set new gaming standards with AMD's cutting-edge technology.

Fans are well into the third year of the PlayStation 5, and its successor, apparently named the PlayStation 6, will most likely not be released for another few years. However, the PlayStation 6 rumor mill continues to spin.

Sony To Partner With AMD For PlayStation, Aiming For High-Performance Gaming At 4K And 8K

The most recent information comes from YouTuber Moore's Law Is Dead, a trustworthy source who previously disclosed information regarding Sony's long-rumored PS5 Pro with beefed-up internals, as per Tom’s Guide.

Moore's Law is Dead recently asserted with "100%" assurance that Sony will maintain its cooperation with AMD to power the PS6 and PS5 Pro. According to insiders, the processor would provide a gaming experience of 4K at 120fps and 8K at 60fps.

Another revelation from YouTuber RedGamingTech adds legitimacy to this theory. He claims Sony was not even considering any manufacturers other than AMD to power their next-generation consoles. The PS4 and PS5 both included the AMD Jaguar and Zen 2.

According to RedGaming Tech, Sony contemplated switching to alternative processor providers before to the PS5's 2020 arrival, the most notable of which is Nvidia. However, the company finally elected to continue with AMD for a variety of reasons, including ease of backward compatibility and an existing specialized custom solutions team.

Of course, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt until the PlayStation team confirms it officially. We still don't know much about the PlayStation 6 specifications and launch date. Still, we have a hint courtesy of court documents released in the FTC's action against Microsoft over its bid to acquire Activision Blizzard.

Sony Eyes PlayStation 6 Launch Post-2027, Initiates Talks with Manufacturers Amid PS5 Pro Rumors

In November 2022, Sony stated in court documents that it does not intend to deliver the PS6 until at least after 2027. Last summer, Microsoft stated that if the Activision Blizzard acquisition goes through, it will release Call of Duty games on PlayStation platforms for at least the next ten years.

“This term would in any case go beyond the expected starting period of the next generation of consoles (in 2028),” Microsoft said.

Moore's Law Is Dead claims that Sony has already begun conversations with manufacturers about the PS6. The most popular reports about the PS5 Pro predict that it will be revealed this year and released in late 2024 or early 2025.
