Tencent, a leading tech company based in Shenzhen, China, announced on Monday, April 22, that it is releasing the much-anticipated latest version of the mobile game "Dungeon and Fighter." The game is finally arriving after seven years, as its development started in 2017.
Investing.com mentioned that the new game has been officially named "Dungeon and Fighter: Origin" in China. Nexon Games initially launched it in South Korea in 2022, and the locals know it as simply "Dungeon & Fighter." It was also released in Japan, and gamers know it as "Arad Senki."
Arrival in China
Tencent Games is bringing the mobile adaption of "Dungeon and Fighter" to China as its local publisher. It was developed by the Korean video game firm Nexon and was first released as a computer game.
Later, the game achieved massive success and has become one of the most profitable PC games in the world. Tencent developed the mobile version of the game for domestic launch, and players will be able to experience it in a few weeks.
In any case, Tencent took several years to launch "Dungeon & Fighter" because the local government canceled its approval for the release in 2017. In February of this year, the company applied for a new license, which was granted.
Release Date for "Dungeon and Fighter"
Tencent said it will drop "Dungeon and Fighter: Origin" on May 21. According to Reuters, shares of the Chinese video gaming company shot up by around 4.5% on Monday morning after the announcement.
Meanwhile, Tencent carried out a closed game test in which 300,000 players participated last month, and the event delivered strong results. Commenting on the outcome, HSBC said earlier, "Testing for DnF yielded solid performance in metrics like [daily active users], retention rate and user's paying propensity."
