“Special” season 2 is expected to be renewed after a successful debut last month. The series only premiered on April 12 and dropped on Netflix with just eight episodes. Despite the short story, it already gained a following who are now clamoring for a second installment.
Will “Special” season 2 be renewed? This is the question that must be answered first since Netflix has no announcement yet with regards to its renewal or cancellation. As per What’s On Netflix, the streaming site is likely to continue comedy series rather than scrapping it after just one season.
Moreover, “Special” season 2 is not expensive to produce at all as every episode only runs from 12 to 17 minutes. It has attracted many viewers as well, and with these two factors, Netflix will surely not think twice of renewing the show for another wacky season.
Plot
This series is based on writer Ryan O’Connell’s 2015 autobiography titled “I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves.” It tells the story of a gay man who is also suffering from cerebral palsy. He did not allow his disability to stop him from fulfilling his dream of becoming a writer and making his way up was a difficult journey for him and was also hilarious - the show is a comedy after all.
“Special” season 2 is expected to continue Ryan’s life and career adventures. Express shared that Ryan has worked a writer on MTV’s “Awkward,” VH1’s “Daytime Divas” and NBC’s “Will and Grace” and working for these shows may be featured in the upcoming second installment.
Cast
O’Connell is acting as himself in the series, and he also serves as “Special” executive producer. Commenting on the moment Netflix gave the go signal to do his project, he told NBC News, “It feels very surreal because I didn't think that any of this could be possible. I’ve been working in Hollywood for six years now, and I know that even the best ideas, even the best shows, with the best talent attached, the odds of one actually getting shot and made and released is very medium rare."
Aside from O’Connell, Punam Patel (Kim), Jessica Hecht (Karen) and Samantha Lee are sure to return on “Special” season 2. “Big Bang Theory” star Jim Parsons will still co-produced the show with O’Connell.
Release Date
“Special” season 2 may arrive sooner than expected as the whole production time is only around two months. Most likely, it will premiere in the early second half of 2019.
