Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have long been rumored to be splitting up. In fact, before the couple even celebrates their first year wedding anniversary, the media were already reporting about their divorce, although not stating the exact reason for their alleged split.
Now, after months of speculations, it turned out that there were truths in those tabloid reports when the “Descendants of the Sun” actor announced that he filed for divorce from Hye Kyo on June 26. The actor released his official statement through his lawyer, and he apologized to everyone for the unfortunate news.
Third Party Allegations
Following the divorce announcement, people began assuming why Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have ended their marriage. One of the most talked about reasons was cheating, and Park Bo Gum was being pointed at as the third party involved. Apparently, his name was linked to the actress since they recently worked together for tvN’s “Encounter.”
In response to these baseless stories, Blossom Entertainment, Bo Gum’s agency threatened to sue people who were spreading the false rumors. "It seems that such rumors were fabricated as Song Hye Kyo and Park Bo Gum recently worked on a production together,” AsiaOne quoted the agency as saying in a statement. “We are also in the process of discussing legal action against other rumors outside of the recent divorce rumors."
Joong Ki was also reported to be having an affair with Hye Kyo’s make-up artist, but this is totally false and just cropped up after the divorce news blew up. Rather, both sides indicated irreconcilable difference as the cause of their break up.
“Arthdal Chronicles” Affected After Divorce News
Song Joong Ki is the lead actor in “Arthdal Chronicles,” and while the drama enjoyed high ratings since it premiered, it was said that the second part got lower ratings following the news of the divorce. The share of Studio Dragon, the production company that produced the drama, was said to have dropped as well.
“Descendants of the Sun” Theme Park
A theme park based on the “DOTS” drama was constructed, and it was one of the most visited areas in Taebaek South Korea. It provides huge profits for the local government, but the visits have declined after the Song Joong Ki - Song Hye Kyo divorce. Now it is on the verge of losing its capital for setting up the park that was said to have cost around $230,000.
Close friends and fans of Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have made an appeal to stop the media from reporting malicious rumors. They said that the couple was in love, but their work has pulled them apart so they should not make up stories just to make their split controversial. They also asked for people to refrain from linking others to the situation because this is all between the two stars only.
