Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have been the subject of divorce rumors for more than a year, but no real proof was ever presented, so it remained just like that - a rumor. However, on the morning of June 27, news broke out that the actor had filed for divorce at the Seoul Family Court on June 26 and the “Arthdal Chronicles” actor also released a statement through his lawyer.
Park Jae Hyun, Joong Ki’s lawyer, made the announcement by saying that their law firm has gone to the court to file for divorce on behalf of his client. In his official statement, the actor apologized to the fans first and emphasized that he is hoping that his split from Song Hye Kyo would be amicable.
As published by My Daily via Naver, the 33-year-old Korean A-list star wrote: “Hello. This is Song Joong Ki. I am sorry to tell you that I have bad news for the fans who love and care for me. I have proceeded with the process for divorce with Song Hye Kyo.”
Joong Ki added that they want to settle the divorce without instigating conflicts from both sides. He said that rather than criticizing each other, he wants the proceedings to be cordial and progress smoothly. He asked for understanding because he cannot tell anything more about his private life.
Song Joong Ki said that it is hard for him to reveal the specific details of his and Song Hye Kyo’s split but promised that he would try to get past this situation and recover from the heartbreak. He also told everyone that he would do his best to be a better actor in his future projects and thanked the fans for the support.
Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo tied the knot in October 2017. They met each and fell in love with each other while filming the “Descendants of the Sun.”
