In a rather interesting development, it would appear that the BBC will neither confirm nor deny if “Sherlock” Season 5 was actually being made. For some, this could simply be taken exactly as it is. However, there are those who have a more wishful idea of what it could be. To start with, the refusal to confirm could be confirmation that it was happening. If so, the other rumors about Robert Downey Jr. possibly appearing could be true, as well.
It’s worth pointing out that the prospect of “Sherlock” Season 5 is not as easy as it seems, WeGotThisCovered recently noted. There have been a lot of issues regarding the show brought up, including the fact that the intense fandom surrounding the show has begun to negatively affect it. It has even gotten to the point where the actors have become annoyed at the last season’s fan service.
This is just one obstacle stopping “Sherlock” Season 5 from being confirmed, though. There is also the matter of the creators and the cast having already moved on to other things. The scheduling would have to be done very carefully if a fifth season will be made and it would appear that no one is willing to commit to that.
On that note, Benedict Cumberbatch and the show’s co-creators have previously expressed interest in doing “Sherlock” Season 5. Even then, the BBC will simply not comment on whether or not it is happening. It is entirely possible that the series will actually be revived, but just not now.
What’s more, if “Sherlock” Season 5 ever does become a thing, it will likely feature something of a time jump. This would be interesting enough, but there is also the possibility of Robert Downey Jr. who plays Sherlock in the movies making an appearance. He would certainly have the time now that he is no longer filming for the MCU.
