Luke Baines has been announced to join the “Shadowhunter” season 3 cast as Jonathan Morgenstern for the second half of the show's final season. The 28-year old Australian actor expressed his excitement in a video tweeted by the official Shadowhunter Twitter page.

Baines even retweeted the video with his own Twitter account, joking about how he was better at acting than talking directly to a camera.

He even had this hilarious exchange with Anna Hopkins, who plays Lilith, Jonathan Morgenstern's adoptive supernatural mother.

Baines even received praise from Will Tudor, who previously portrayed the “Shadowhunters” villain in season 2.

The show's official Twitter page has also released a sneak peek of the actor's role on the show.

As fans may know, Jonathan Morgenstern, brother of Clary Fairchild played by Katherine McNamara, was season 2's villain who met his demise in the second season's finale. But his adoptive mother, Lilith, was able to rescue Morgenstern from death and schemed to resurrect Clary's evil brother. It would seem that the character of Jonathan Morgenstern is set to come back as the big bad in the second half of “Shadowhunters” Season 3, which will be premiering in 2019.

Luke Baines is no stranger to playing villains or particularly disturbed individuals. He did play the serial killer in Wes Craven's final film “The Girl in the Photographs” and Ricky Gladstone, leader of the gang called The Misfits, in Richard Zelniker's “As Night Comes.”

With Baines's introduction to the show coming in so late considering its confirmed cancellation, fans are wondering if his performance can help Freeform un-cancel the series.

The show has been receiving massive support from its fans through the #SaveShadowhunters campaign, with fans even renting out ad space on an electronic billboard in Times Square.

It seems that fans are hoping that their activities can help save “Shadowhunters” beyond season 3, similar to how “The Expanse” was saved from cancellation by Syfy when Amazon picked it up.
