‘Shadowhunters’ season 2’s episode 9, titled “Bound by Blood,” will follow Clary as she continues to run from Valentine and other Downworlders who may not have her best interests at heart. It was hinted that Clary may make the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of Downworld. Meanwhile, Katherine McNamara explained her character Clary’s relationship with Simon.
The synopsis for “Bound by Blood” posted on TV Guide reads, “The Downworlders are at odds on how to handle the issue of Clary (Katherine McNamara) being a key part of Valentine's (Alan van Sprang) plan, but when Iris (Stephanie Belding) activates her blood oath, Clary has more to worry about than hiding from Valentine and the Downworlders.
Meanwhile, Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) and Raphael (David Castro) get closer, as Alec (Matthew Daddario) tries to figure out what's going on with his sister.”
Things are bound to get chaotic for Clary when the Downworlders find themselves at odds with Clary’s involvement in Valentine’s ultimate plan. It seems that she will have to go on the run from Valentine as well as some Downworlders with bad intentions.
The promo hints that Clary will decide to put her life at risk for the sake of Downworld. Some are even open to the decision of killing off Clary.
In the promo, Clary says, “I would rather die than let Valentine destroy the Downworld.” By the end of the promo, she is seen struggling to stay alive in Simon’s arms. It will be interesting to see how she manages to pull through.
The previous episode, titled "Love is a Devil," followed the chaos that ensued at Max’s (Jack Fulton) rune ceremony after a female warlock successfully put everyone in a spell that caused them to hallucinate. Alec wanted to use the event as an opportunity to introduce his lover Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) to the family but things didn’t go well as well as he’d hoped.
Simon also got the chance to profess his love to Clary, to which the two ended up kissing. It seems that they have finally moved their friendship up to the next level.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, lead actress Katherine McNamara talked about Clary and Simon’s relationship. McNamara admitted, “I love the way that they’ve built their love story because Clary and Simon have grown up together and they know each other better than they know themselves, and now they’re both a part of this new world and beginning to find their way.”
She continued, “They’re both changing. Clary is growing up. She’s beginning to fight her own battles; she’s maturing. And Simon is as well… After Jocelyn’s death, they start to lean on each other even more. Everything that’s been happening in this world has been changing their relationship to a point now where they see each other in a different way and it’s perfect timing. They say all things happen for a reason, and Clary and Simon are a result of that natural progression.”
‘Shadowhunters’ season 2’s episode 9, titled “Bound by Blood,” is scheduled to air on Freeform on February 27, 2017. It was directed by Matt Hastings and written by Peter Binswanger. It will be followed by episode 9, titled "Bound by Blood," scheduled to be released on February 27.
