Sam Heughan turns 39 on April 30 and his “Outlander” season 5 co-star Caitriona Balfe made sure to greet him on his special day. The Irish actress wished him a happy birthday via social media and she did not forget to send lots of cakes and kisses too.
On Instagram, Balfe wrote: “Happy Birthday @samheughan !!! To the man who can smize for miles ... May this be your best year yet!!!”
Apparently, the actress could not personally send Sam Heughan his birthday cakes so she actually sent virtually through emoticons. Caitriona Balfe also loaded her greeting with kisses and it was cute.
Sam and Caitriona have the same age so they are known to always call out each other on social media - mostly in a fun way. The former always updates his fans with posts of his activities and the actress usually comment on them but she mostly does it jokingly which only shows how close they have become since filming their hit “Outlander” drama.
At any rate, Sam Heughan and Balfe are currently filming “Outlander” season 5. They resumed playing their roles as Jamie and Claire Fraser in April so they are mostly staying in Scotland these days. Aside from being the lead actors in this Highland-themed drama, the two are also serving as producers for this season.
“Outlander” season 5 has no release date yet but for fans who would like to watch the previous episodes of the drama, Entertainment Weekly reported that seasons 1 and 2 are going to be released on Netflix starting May 27. Prior to its premiere on the streaming site, the show has only been available on Starz and DVD/Blu-ray from Sony Home Entertainment.
Meanwhile, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe will be more involved in “Outlander” season 5 as they now have a say on everything in the drama thus some changes are expected once it’s released. The fifth season is based on Diana Gabaldon's “The Fiery Cross.”
