SK hynix has begun providing Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo with 16-gigabyte packages of Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo (LPDDR5T). Vivo will incorporate these high-performance memory chips into its latest smartphone models, namely the X100 and X100 Pro.
LPDDR5T Unleashes Thunderous Speeds
LPDDR5T, the fastest mobile DRAM in the market, is designed for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, aiming to minimize power consumption while ensuring low-voltage operation. SK hynix emphasizes that LPDDR5T represents the optimal memory solution to maximize smartphone performance, achieving unparalleled speed, according to the Korea Herald.
In addition to LPDDR5T, the Vivo smartphones will feature MediaTek's flagship mobile application processor (AP), the Dimensity 9300. SK hynix has conducted full performance verification to ensure seamless integration of the processor with the LPDDR5T memory chips.
“Smartphones are becoming essential devices for implementing on-device AI technology as the AI era kicks into full swing,” said Park Myoung-soo, vice president and head of DRAM marketing at SK hynix.
LPDDR5T: Revolutionizing Mobile Device Performance
KoreaBizwire pointed out that SK hynix's LPDDR5T sets a new benchmark, capable of transfer rates of 9.6 gigabits per second and processing a staggering 77GB of data per second. To put this into perspective, the LPDDR5T can transfer the equivalent of 15 full high-definition movies in just one second.
The tech giant affirms its dedication to expanding the application range of LPDDR5T, leading the generational shift in the mobile DRAM sector. SK hynix's innovation in on-device artificial intelligence (AI) technology further enhances the capabilities of smartphones by enabling AI computation directly on the device itself, eliminating the need for external servers.
According to an SK hynix official, the capacity of DRAM plays a crucial role in on-device AI, determining a smartphone's ability to remember user commands and process them efficiently. The LPDDR5T 16GB package operates within the ultralow voltage range designated by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council.
Anticipated to have a significant influence on SK hynix's earnings, the latest LPDDR5T memory chip aims to capture a substantial share of the mass-volume smartphone market.
