‘Riverdale’ season 1’s episode 4, titled “Chapter Four: The Last Picture Show," is set to follow the mystery behind Miss Grundy as Betty uncovers the music teacher’s shocking past. Meanwhile, Betty’s mother Alice is set on sabotaging Archie’s clean image after she finds her daughter’s diary.
The synopsis for “Chapter Four: The Last Picture Show" posted on TV Guide reads, “Jughead (Cole Sprouse) discovers an anonymous buyer for the drive-in plans to tear it down and launches a battle to keep it open; Betty's (Lili Reinhart) friendship with Archie (K.J. Apa) takes a hit after she uncovers shocking information about Miss Grundy's (Sarah Habel) past.
Meanwhile, Veronica (Camila Mendes) confronts her mother (Marisol Nichols) about a suspicious meeting between her and a shady Southside Serpent; and after uncovering Betty's diary, Alice (Madchen Amick) seizes the opportunity to destroy Archie's golden-boy image.”
The original Archie comic books portrayed Miss Geraldine Grundy as a no-nonsense homeroom teacher at the Riverdale High School, who occasionally teaches Archie and his classmates other subjects such as Math and English. However, the new teen drama and mystery series ‘Riverdale’ gave the character a less-than-wholesome tune-up.
Habel’s version of the iconic comic book character is a young and attractive music teacher, who entices Archie into an intimate relationship after he approaches her for music lessons. According to Polygon, Apa described Archie and Miss Grundy’s relationship during a previous interview. The actor stated, "I guess that's a really inappropriate kind of romance he has going on there.”
It seems that Miss Grundy has some secrets of her own, which Betty will come to uncover. It will be interesting to see her struggle with the revelation and whether or not she will tell Archie.
Meanwhile, according to Yahoo! News, Alice may do everything she can to tarnish Archie’s clean reputation after she manages to take hold of Betty’s diary. Alice has always been wary of her daughter’s friendship with the redhead.
‘Riverdale’ season 1’s episode 4, titled “Chapter Four: The Last Picture Show," is scheduled to air on The CW on February 16, 2017. It was directed by Mark Piznarksi and written by Michael Grassi. It will be followed by episode 5, titled "Chapter Five: Heart of Darkness," directed by Jesse Warn and scheduled to be released on February 23.
