Rise of Digital Credit: How Strategy and Strive Are Co-Building the Bitcoin Ecosystem

Michael Saylor has challenged the developing story around Bitcoin-backed financial companies, claiming that Strategy (MSTR) and Strive (ASST) are not trapped in a zero-sum fight for market share. Both companies depend on the very same structural basis of using Bitcoin as digital capital to support perpetual preferred securities (digital credit) and common equity (digital equity) rather than competing for a set pool of capital. Though individual investors might select between their particular instruments depending on yield and risk profiles, both companies work separately to help to grow the more general market for crypto-backed liabilities.

Direct institutional cross-holdings—Strive's $50 million investment in Strategy's STRC preferred stock in March 2026—further emphasize the complementarity of the two companies. This agreement highlights how digital credit companies may serve as consumers, liquidity suppliers, and concurrent rivals for asset allocation for one other's offerings. Rather than depleting demand, more well-managed issuers help to deepen secondary market liquidity, stimulate sell-side research coverage, and so reduce total cost of capital across the board.

For market players, this change signals a move from single-issuer risk to a mature, multi-issuer digital credit market. Bitcoin's sustained pricing power and institutional acceptance will raise the entire ecosystem as long as it forms the basic collateral layer for these corporate balance sheets. More general market involvement finally improves funding circumstances for all issuers, therefore demonstrating that sector expansion provides a far more significant tailwind than any zero-sum competition.
