“Rick and Morty” Season 4 will not be coming out this year although there are rumors out there that a one-time Christmas special episode may be coming in the next couple of weeks. While nothing has been confirmed just yet, fans are speculating that show creators might have a surprise gift for its fan-base.
The whispers started sprouting when audiences closely looked at the post-credit scene of the comedy series’ third installment. In it, Mr. Poopybutthole said that audiences will be waiting a long time for “Rick and Morty” Season 4. So long, he said, that fans will be seeing him sporting a "big, white Santa Claus beard” when it finally airs.
This statement could potentially be a clue that a Christmas special is dropping when paired with the character’s past dialogue. The post-credit scene of the series’ second installment saw Mr. Poopybutthole saying that the next season will be dropping a year and a half later. After such time has passed, the character’s statement proved to be true when the third installment aired on April 1, 2017 – exactly one year and 6 months from when Mr. Poopybutthole said the statement. Taking all this into account, it’s possible that show creators might provide their fans a single Christmas special, while they are finishing the rest of “Rick and Morty” Season 4.
After all, these are the people who dropped the third installment on April Fool’s Day with no marketing and promotion whatsoever. It’s clear that Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland know their audiences well. They also delight in trolling their fans from time to time and releasing a Christmas episode might be one of the pair’s latest prank for its large following. Of course, this is pure speculation at this point. What’s new about “Rick and Morty” Season 4 is the trailer that’s been recently released that heavily features EDM and portrays several characters fighting over a portal gun.
