Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon's Cartoon Network show about a time-traveling grandfather-and-grandson duo may have a reputation for having long breaks in between seasons. Fans have had to contend with long droughts, wondering if the show was on the verge of cancelation or releasing its latest season. But when it rains, it pours and fans of the show have more concrete news about “Rick and Morty” season 4 and its production schedule.
Dan Harmon recently posted a picture of a recording booth with the description that the first round of recordings for “Rick and Morty” season 4 has started.
Harmon also posted a video featuring the “Rick and Morty” season 4 animators' room. The show's co-creator shouts a familiar phrase that fans have heard from Harmon during the “Rick and Morty” drought leading up to season 3 as the animators wave from the background.
While not as exciting as an exact air date for “Rick and Morty” season 4, Dan Harmon's progress report from behind the scenes can help fans make educated guesses as to when the show can return on air.
Justin Roiland, on the other hand, was quiet about the behind-the-scenes work for “Rick and Morty” season 4 on social media. But the show's co-creator and voice of Rick and Morty posted something else to celebrate about on Twitter.
Now we’re mainstream SELL OUTS! Jk. This is cool though. Forgot to thank you @theweeknd pic.twitter.com/G8OfzEDCAr

Fans of the show will be glad to know that “Rick and Morty” recently won an Emmy award for Outstanding Animated Program for its third season episode “Pickle Rick.” The show was also nominated for the Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media Within a Scripted Program award, which it lost to HBO's sci-fi western, “Westworld.”
“Rick and Morty” season 4 has yet to have a confirmed air date but considering that the show is in the early stages of production – as well as the recent order of 70 more episodes that the show is getting from Cartoon Network – fans can hopefully look forward to sometime in 2019 for the series's return.
