Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was finally baptized on July 6. However, the ceremony was inundated with many controversies due to the decisions that the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex have made with regards to how it would be carried out.
Prior to the christening people were guessing who will be the godparents of the newest royal baby. And some of the names mentioned were Markle’s friends from Hollywood, and the rest were dignitaries who are close to Prince Harry and the Royal family.
The secret christening
Fans and the citizens were disappointed when it was announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want an intimate christening which means that it would be a highly private affair with just the family and friends in attendance. This also means that there will be no media coverage or photo ops for Archie or guests.
In the note issued from the palace, the private christening was announced to the public on July 3. It also reiterated the fact that the names of the godparents will not be released and will remain a secret.
“Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened in a small private ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday 6th July,” the note reads. “The godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private.”
Why the citizens are outrage
Apparently, the public did not agree with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s decision to keep Archie Harrison’s baptism a private affair. Camilla Long of UK’s The Sun commented that there is a simple explanation as to why the public is angry, and this is because they feel that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no right to keep their son’s christening and its details a secret because they are public figures. The author added that the royals are being funded by the taxpayer’s money so they should have considered this before they made their move.
Lastly, the citizens also brought up the renovation of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Frogmore Cottage that reportedly cost $3 million. It was from the people’s taxes. Thus the public reasoned that they have the right to know about Archie’s christening and who his godparents are.
