Fans have been waiting for the spinoff of “Power” and finally, the first in the series titled “Power Book II: Ghost” has arrived. It started with the aftermath of James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick’s death with Tasha being arrested for the shooting of her husband.
What happened in the premiere episode
While being tried for the murder, Tariq’s (Michael Rainey Jr.) mother stated that she is innocent. She tried to put the blame on Tommy Egan so that her son will not be implicated in Ghost’s death. Tasha (Naturi Naughton) knows who the real shooter was but she will not give up on protecting her teenage son thus she dropped her husband’s former business partner and close friend, Tommy.
As per TV Line, Courtney Kemp, the “Power Book II: Ghost” showrunner and executive producer, initially planned to pin Dre to Ghost’s murder since he is already dead. He is also a good choice because he is known to he St. Patrick’s fiercest enemy too. However, this will not work as Saxe already ruled him out in the “Power” finale.
“Dre has been taken away from her as a scapegoat,” the outlet quoted Kemp her as saying. “Who does she have left? So she says ‘Tommy.'”
It should be noted that Tommy (Joseph Sikora) is an easy escape because, in season 6’s finale, he was shown leaving New York. He decided to move to California and start a new life after the tragedies he encountered in the Big Apple.
Then again, this scenario may not proper in “Power Book II: Ghost” because this is focused on Tasha and Tariq’s story. Fans will see more of Tommy as his story will be featured in the fourth spinoff titled “Power Book IV: Force.”
Spoilers - What to expect next in the spinoff
Tariq is back to school while Tasha was put to jail in the first episode of “Power Book II: Ghost.” Kemp teased that Ghost’s son will have a hard time dealing with his situation and would do everything to be reunited with his mom again. He went back to drug dealing while studying to get his inheritance.
“There’s a consistent doubt in our abilities that doesn’t change as you get more success,” Deadline quoted Kemp as she describes how Rainey’s will be able to lead “Power Book II: Ghost.”
Meanwhile, “Power Book II: Ghost” will air every Sunday on Starz at 9 p.m. Express reported there will be 10 episodes for the whole spinoff series.
