Many, if not all, people want to live a long life. A new study has proven that doing a certain kind of exercise can help increase a person’s life expectancy.
There are several factors that come into play when it comes to a longer life expectancy. Diet is one of them, so is exercise. Genetics is another factor when it comes to a person’s life expectancy, and whether it runs in the family to live very long lives or not. However, that aspect is beyond our control.
In terms of dieting, the Mediterranean diet is the advised type of diet that people should follow in case they want to live longer. This particular diet is made up of healthy fats, as well as fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts. Exercise is also a big factor in increasing life expectancies, but there is one specific kind of exercise that is found to be able to increase a person’s life expectancy, and therefore they can live longer lives.
Many doctors would say that the best kind of exercise for a person is what they actually do on a regular basis. But, Time reports that people who engage in partner or team sports add more years to their lives compared to people who do solitary exercises or workouts.
A study that was published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings revealed that the social interaction that comes with engaging in the team or partner sports can add more years to a person’s lifespan. Because not only is the person encouraged to interact with the people they play with, they also get some exercise from it as well.
Sports like badminton, tennis, and soccer are among the examples of team sports that can help add more years to a person’s life. One of the authors of the study, Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute cardiologist Dr. James O’Keefe, said that what would be the most important aspect in a workout routine is involving a “playdate.”
The University of Helsinki, Finland professor of Psychology and Logopedics also added to this statement. “It would be important to maintain existing relationships by meeting family members and friends face-to-face and exercising together.”
