Headache, that throbbing pain in the head, is fairly common especially during the summer.
A headache is one of the common disorders of the nervous system and, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly everybody will get to experience a headache once in a while.
Over the years, we learn that there are more than one type of headache depending on the degree of the pain and the particular area in the head where the pain is emanating from.
There is tension headaches, cluster headaches, migraine, allergy or sinus headaches, hormone headaches, caffeine headaches, exertion headaches, hypertension headaches, rebound headaches and post-traumatic headaches.
More often we reach for pain relievers when we are suffering from headaches especially when we have work to do and do not have time to just sleep it off.
However, becoming dependent on pain relievers is not also good for our health and could lead to further health problems. Fortunately, there are other means for us to relieve headaches aside from popping pills into our mouth. And, that is with the use of essential oils.
Peppermint oil is said to be one of the most effective essential oils that can relieve headaches.
The peppermint plant from which a peppermint oil is extracted has menthol and this is what relieves headaches.
According to the Daily Express, studies show that a tension headache can be relieved by applying peppermint oil to the temple and forehead.
A peppermint oil is also said to relieve migraine, one of the worst headaches because the pain is so debilitating, and can render you helpless and unable to do your daily tasks.
It can also lessen nausea and sensitivity to light which is also experienced by those who have migraines.
So, if you are prone to headaches, it might be helpful if you have a bottle of peppermint oil in handy.
