‘Outlander’ season 3 stars Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin were recently spotted on the Glasgow filming set where they shot scenes as the next main protagonists Brianna and Roger.
According to the Daily Mail, Skelton was spotted in Glasgow, Scotland filming scenes for the incoming season of the historical time travel series ‘Outlander’ with co-star Rankin. The two are set to play the newest main protagonists Brianna "Bree" Randall and Roger Wakefield, respectively.
The photographs showed Skelton and Rankin engaged in seemingly serious conversation as they stood around in Glasgow’s west end. By the end of one scene, the co-actors shared some laughs and were in a jovial mood. Skelton is best known for her work on several U.K. television series including ‘DCI Banks’, ‘Waterloo Road’, and ‘Foyle’s War’ while Rankin is known for his work on the Scottish sketch show ‘Burnistoun’ and the BBC One war drama ‘The Crimson Field.’
It was previously revealed that Skelton and Rankin’s characters will feature heavily in the show’s season 3. Executive producer Ron Moore praised the co-actors’ chemistry during a previous interview.
Moore said, 'It was a big decision, because these characters become big players and definitely permanent parts of the family as the series goes forward, so it was more complex than just casting a guest-star role… They both just nailed it. We did a chemistry test where we had Roger and Bree on camera together. Once that worked, we felt like we had all of the pieces.”
Skelton’s Bree is the second daughter of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan), who was raised in America by her mother’s first husband Frank (Tobias Menzies). Season 2 ended with Bree finding out that her real father is actually Jamie and not Frank.
Bree hadn’t known of her true parentage until Frank died and Claire took her to Scotland to tell her about her journey through time and her relationship with Jamie. According to Moviepilot, one scene from season 2’s episode 13 found Claire and her daughter engaged in a heated conversation. In her anger at the revelation, Bree even wished that Claire was the one who died instead of Frank.
After initially telling Claire that she wanted nothing to do with Jamie, Bree eventually softened up and wanted to know more about her father. She also realized that her mother was telling the truth after witnessing time travel for herself.
‘Outlander’ season 3 is currently in production and is scheduled to return to Starz sometime in 2017.
