Ahead of “Orange Is The New Black”’s Season 5 return on Netflix, the show brought out the big guns in the form of iconic telenovela villain Soraya Montenegro.
Soraya Montenegro is the main villain in the telenovela “María la del Barrio.” Spanish actress Itatí Cantoral, gave notoriety to her character in many of her legendary scenes, most especially the very scene where she thwarted a growing romance between her crippled daughter and the son of her mortal enemy.
In the show’s latest commercial, Cantoral is seen reviving her iconic character, interacting with some of the prisoners, including Big Boo (Lea DeLaria), Buzzfeed reported. In the commercial, the prisoners were shocked to see Soraya in Litchfield. Soraya began to throw insults in Spanish, which only made the prisoners more excited. She also demonstrated how to strangle a "maldita lisiada." Despite her threats, the inmates, including Big Boo, were too starstrucked to interact with a legend who can cry in Spanish and do those signature hair flips, PerezHilton noted.
The video has since reached 3 million views and counting. It also prompted telenovela and “Orange Is The New Black” fans to clamor for Cantoral to join the show’s cast in the future. Tagging Netflix, one viewer said, "Very good actress...is it true that she'd be in this series, that's unbelievable but it would be amazing to see Itatí in this season!!!"
The ladies of Litchfield will be back for the hotly anticipated fifth season of “Orange Is The New Black,” which will premiere in the streaming service on June 9, Entertainment Weekly said.
