The trailer of the upcoming Season 5 of “Orange Is The New Black” has just been released, and boy, it’s going to be one chaotic ride.
Earlier, star Laverne Cox teased to E! that the new season will have fans “gag.” She explained, "What I can tell you is that I was just as excited as all the fans were to see what happens next. When I read it, it was incredible, when we shot it, it was…intense. It's really, really intense. It manages…as intense as it all is, it still manages to have an irreverence and a spin that is funny and thoughtful."
And it seems that she’s right. In the full trailer, we return to Litchfield Correctional Facility in the verge of a riot following Poussey’s (Samira Wiley) death. Daya (Dascha Polanco), in the midst of the tension, picks up a loose gun and decides to point it a guard’s head while being surrounded by her fellow prisoners. Although it wasn’t clear if Daya did fire the gun, emotions are clearly running high.
Buzzfeed notes that Taystee (Danielle Brooks) and Caputo (Nick Sandow) are butting heads, considering the fact that Taystee is Poussey’s bestfriend. Soso, a close friend of Poussey’s, is also seen breaking down at the library where her former friend spends most of her time from. The trailer also showed that the entire facility held a makeshift vigil in Poussey’s honor. On the other hand, it also showed a bit of comedy, as some prisoners try to ham it up for the reporters’ cameras as the latter cover the growing battle between the inmates and the correctional officers.
“Orange Is The New Black” Season 5 will debut on June 9. Brooks earlier confirmed that the new season will cover events over the course of three days.
