The Nvidia GTX 1050 and 1050 Ti is here and the reviews so far are painting a telling picture. There is now a new king in the affordable, high-performance GPU price range. AMD seems to know it too since it reduced its prices for its own budget GPUs in anticipation of the 1050’s market impact.
AMD has been riding high on the wave generated by its affordable RX 460 and RX 470 GPU line for months, ExtremeTech reports, which maintained a solid position in the market. With the release of the GTX 1050 and 1050 Ti, it would seem that AMD’s reign is about to end.
The more powerful GTX 1050 Ti sports 4GB of memory and 768 CUDA cores. The 1050 variant only offers 2GB of memory and only offers 640 cores. That may seem like a huge difference when compared side by side, but when the two cards are pitted against AMD’s offering, reviewers generally agree that Nvidia’s GPUs come out as the better choice.
Their prices are huge selling points as well since the 1050 and 1050 Ti costs $110 and $140 respectively. There was no GPU by Nvidia that could offer this kind of performance at this price range before these two examples came out. Now, gamers have even more options which can actually achieve incredible clock rates.
As a result of the release of the two GPUs, AMD has decided to cut the prices of its own products, starting with the $10 drop of the RX 460, Tech Spot reports. Its 4GB counterpart also saw a drastic reduction and is now priced at $120. For those who can still afford a little more expense, the RX 470 now only costs $170 as well.
Clearly, AMD knows the score and realized that the GTX 1050 was going to outmatch their own GPUs. So now, they are shifting the fight to the field of affordability, which is great news for gamers.
