The chances of “Now You See Me 3” getting released this year is getting less and less by the day. But that does not mean the third movie project is already canceled. With that considered, the wait for the trilogy to be completed shall continue in 2020.

Now You See Me 3’ release date: Is the movie still happening?

It is difficult to put a date on the premiere of “Now You See Me 3” simply because it has been several years since the last update on its development was reported. On the bright side, Lionsgate or anyone affiliated to the movie franchise has not mentioned the project getting canceled for good. So it is understandable for fans to continue waiting for the third movie’s release.

Interestingly, Rotten Tomatoes lists the “Now You See Me 3” release date as Jan. 1, 2020. But fans should not be confused by it because it is most likely just a placeholder date issued by the popular review-aggregation website. While it does not represent the official premiere or even the movie’s release date window, it is still a nice reminder that the making of the third movie is still in the pipeline.

Now You See Me 3’ cast, plot: Benedict Cumberbatch joins the series?

One of the longest-running rumor about “Now You See Me 3” is that BBC’s “Sherlock” and “Doctor Strange” star, Benedict Cumberbatch, is slated to be the latest addition to the mystery-thriller series. This speculation has been going around for several years now, that it is almost difficult to trace back where it started. It should also be noted that no one from Cumberbatch’s camp has confirmed the reports.

The best fans can hope for “Now You See Me 3” is to see the staple cast members back including Morgan Freeman, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan, and possibly even the return of Isla Fisher. If the third movie becomes the series finale, it would not be surprising to also see a cameo of the sequel’s main villain portrayed by Michael Caine and Daniel Radcliffe.

If Cumberbatch turns out to be really part of “Now You See Me 3” his potential role is also quite easy to guess. Since the composition of the Four Horsemen and their allies is already established, the only remarkable way to introduce Cumberbatch to the movie is by being the big baddie for the third movie.
