‘Nashville’ season 5 is set to premiere on CMT with part two of “The Wayfaring Stranger” to be followed by episode 2, titled “Back in Baby’s Arms.” The revival follows events after Juliette’s devastating plane crash.
Season 5 of the American musical drama television series starring Connie Britton and Rayna James as country music superstars is set to return on the small screens on January 5 following a sneak peak last December 15, 2016.
The teaser for the incoming season posted on TV Guide reads, “Season 5 begins with Rayna (Connie Britton) and Deacon (Charles Esten) adjusting to Maddie's (Lennon Stella) return home and dealing with Highway 65's financial struggles. Meanwhile, news about Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) shocks Nashville and sets Rayna on a journey of discovery.”
The new season is set to pick-up after the events of Juliette’s plane crash from the season 4 finale. It was revealed that Juliette came out alive after her plane crashed in a field just outside of Nashville.
However, she shattered two of her vertebrae and can barely move her toes in addition to sustaining injuries on her legs. She has also become paralyzed and has to undergo rehabilitation while in recuperation.
Season 5 is set to open with “The Wayfaring Stranger” followed by episode 2, titled “Back in Baby’s Arms.” The brief synopsis for episode 2 posted on Cartermatt reads, “Rayna approaches Deacon about making a concept album together; Scarlett (Clare Bowen) can’t trust Gunnar (Sam Palladio); Juliette seeks out her guardian angel.”
Meanwhile, showrunner Ed Zwick recalled taking over the series revival with Marshall Herskovitz during an interview with Yahoo! News. Zwick revealed, “It was kind of an unexpected experiment… Someone at Lionsgate offered it to us, and we thought it might be fun — forgetting, of course, that kind of work is rarely only fun, it’s really work! But we’re doing it, and I’d like to think that we’re going to put our own stamp on it.” The series original creator, Callie Khouri, remains involved in the series.
‘Nashville’ season 5, episode 1’s second part is set to air on January 5, 2017 following a sneak peak on CMT last December 15, 2016. It will be followed by episode 2, titled "Back in Baby's Arms."
