“Narcos” season 4 is returning with a new title and it was done to complement the show’s new setting. The upcoming installment is now called “Narcos: Mexico” and as the title suggest, the location has been changed from Colombia to Mexico.
The first three seasons of the series were based on stories that happened in Colombia and “Narcos” season 4 is moving away from it. This is because the plot will delve more into the drug trade’s history and Mexico was a place where it all began.
Eric Newman, “Narcos” season 4’s EP, affirmed that they are heading to the Land of Enchantment to provide a realistic story on how the drug cartels started and grew to be billion dollar business that distributes illegal substances around the world.
“The origins of the Guadalajara cartel are in the late 1970s and early 1980s, so Narcos is going back in time," he revealed to The Hollywood Reporter.
He added, "We always knew that we would get to Mexico eventually. A key team comprised of myself and the guys I really trust and work very closely with - director Andi Baiz, co-creators Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro - have been discussing how to best transition to Mexico as early as season two.”
“Narcos” season 4 is inspired by true events and will feature the stories of drug kingpins who reign in the world of drug cartels in the 80s. Of course, since the focus of the plot is illegal drug trading and how it all began, there will be lots of action in the drama as the law enforcement wages war against drugs and its distributors around the world.
Finally, “Narcos” season 4 will present new lead actors and they are Michael Peña (Kiki Camarena) and Diego Luna (Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo). The two will act as the DEA agent and drug kingpin, respectively, so it means that there will be lots of confrontations and chasing scenes between them.
“Narcos” season 4 is returning to the small screen on Nov. 16 via Netflix, as per Variety. In the meantime, check out the latest promo trailer below:
