Mozilla on Tuesday launched Focus by Firefox – a content blocker for Safari that improves the privacy and performance of mobile browsing experience by blocking analytics, social and advertising trackers. It is free, open source and requires iOS 9.0 or later.
Focus by Firefox enables users to control the types of page content allowed on their browser. Users can take control of their personal information and choose what content they want to block with different settings to block ads, analytics, and tracking through social networks like Facebook, The Verge explained.
Firefox VP Mark Mayo told FORBES, “When you give users some control over what’s happening they can really make that web experience theirs… content blocking can be pretty compelling for a better web experience.”
The app gets its blacklist from Disconnect.me that blocks over 5000 trackers, sources of malware and identity theft. The Verge added that the app will also detect “new trackers on the fly, using heuristics to identify any content following a user from site to site.”
It is compatible with iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Air, iPad Air Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad Air 2, iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 3 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 4 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad Pro, iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular, and iPod touch (6th generation).
“In the future, Focus by Firefox will provide a variety of options to let you customize your lists and better control content across the Web”, the product description page reads.
