Mister Donut and Gion Tsujiri Unite Once More for Kyoto-Inspired Donut Delights

In blending the rich, toasted flavors of hojicha with their iconic donuts, Mister Donut and Gion Tsujiri once again showcase their prowess in creating confections that capture the essence of Kyoto's tea heritage.

Japanese donut phenomenon Mister Donut delighted fans with its latest "Misdo Meets" series collaboration, partnering with the esteemed Kyoto tea merchant Gion Tsujiri. Due to overwhelming demand and a shared passion for innovative treats, the duo has returned, tempting us with new creations that promise to be irresistible.

The Unique Flavor of Hojicha

SoraNews 24 noted that while Gion Tsujiri is renowned for its matcha, this sequel introduces a flavorful twist by spotlighting hojicha or roasted green tea. Known for its toasted, nutty flavor and captivating deep brown hue, hojicha takes center stage in the new lineup, particularly in the Nama Pon de Ring Uji Hojicha. This offering reinvents Mister Donut's signature Pon de Ring donuts, which are noted for their spherical segments.

The "nama" quality implies an exceptionally moist texture, achieved by integrating Gion Tsujiri's Uji-grown hojicha directly into the dough, complemented by a luscious hojicha glaze.

Innovating with Kinako

Elevating the innovation, the Nama Pon de Ring Uji Hojicha Kinako forgoes the glaze for a kinako (roasted soybean powder) sugar coating. This variation, according to PR Times, may initially appear to dial back on the hojicha essence. Still, it includes a special twist – a packet of brown sugar hojicha sauce ready to drizzle over the donut, ensuring a flavor-packed experience despite the potential for a messy indulgence.

Priced at 220 yen (about US$1.45) for the Nama Pon de Ring Uji Hojicha and 242 yen for the Kinako variant, these treats are set to entice tastebuds starting April 24, available until late May. Simultaneously, Mister Donut will continue offering its previously launched matcha items, with the option for a bundle pack featuring all five delights for 1,100 yen.
